What do I need to know?

What do I need to know?

Is the road open?
Completely weather dependent!
If there has been snow or rain
overnight this can cause the road to be icy and dangerous.
A decision is made in the morning as to whether the road is safe for vehicles. We update our report page around 6:30-7am with this information https://www.whakapapa.com/report

Do I need chains or 4WD?
We always recommend carrying chains as our alpine environment can change very quickly and will affect the road conditions.

Where can I hire snow chains?
We do not offer snow chains to rent. We'd recommend renting before you make your way to us.
They can
purchased from Four Square or SkiBiz. They have very limited stock so don't rely on being able to find the right size for your tyres.
